The SQL server is paused or stopped, or the workstation is unable to connect to the server machine.
Verify the SQL Instance Is Installed and Running on the Server
- On the server, access the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager.
- For steps to do this see the How to Access the SQL Server Configuration Manager article.
- Click on “SQL Server Services” to display a list of the currently running services.
- Verify that SQL Server (GREATLANDYD)* is running.
- Right click the server name, then click Start if the service is stopped or paused.
- On the left, double click on SQL Server Network Configuration.
- Select Protocols for GREATLANDYD*.
- Right click on TCP/IP and select Enable.
- Right click on Named Pipes and select Enable.
- On the left, double click on SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration.
- Select Client Protocols.
- Right click on Named Pipes and select Enable.
- Click on SQL Server Services in the left pane.
- Right click on SQL Server (GREATLANDYD)* and click Restart.
- Right click on SQL Server Browser and click Restart.
- Proceed to the next section if the error persists, or the SQL instance does not exist.
*The SQL Server instance will differ depending on the version of the program. Please see the Important Program Directories and File Locations article for more information.
Disable Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Reinstall Yearli
- Disable all anti-virus or anti-spyware programs.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Uninstall Yearli Server for the specified tax year.
- Reinstall Yearli Server. Take note of any errors that may occur during the installation.
- Repeat steps 1 through 6 on each workstation, uninstalling and reinstalling each Yearli Workstation for the specified tax year.
Verify Administrator Rights and Reinstall
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "compmgmt.msc" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- In the Computer Management screen, expand Local Users and Groups.
- Click on Groups.
- In the list on the right, double click on Administrators.
- Verify that the active user account is listed in the Members section.
- Close the Computer Management window.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Uninstall Yearli Workstation for the specified tax year.
- Reinstall Yearli Workstation. Take note of any errors that may occur during the installation.
Disable Windows Firewall on the Server
- Go to the Server computer.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "firewall.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Choose Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
- Under Private network settings, choose Turn off Windows Firewall.
- Under Public network settings, choose Turn off Windows Firewall.
- If these steps solve the problem, you can create a firewall exception to allow the program to communicate with the firewall enabled.

Changing the Target Line of the Workstation
- On the server machine open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotes.
- Take note of the IPv4 Address.
- Go back to the affected workstation and right click on the Yearli Workstation icon.
- Click Properties.
- In the Target line locate the name/IP Address of the server machine.
- Change to the IP address noted in the previous step followed by a comma and then the dynamic port.

- Click OK to apply the changes and close the Properties window.
Uninstall the SQL Instance and Reinstall Yearli
- On the server machine, access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Click Microsoft SQL Express 2019 from the list of programs.
- Click Uninstall/Change.
- Click the Remove option.
- Click OK.
- From the Instance to remove features from drop down menu, choose GREATLANDYD*.
- Click Next.
- Check the box next to Database Engine Services.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Remove.
- Install the Yearli Server program again.
- If any errors appear during the installation, take note of the errors that occur and contact support.
