SQL Is Paused or Stopped. The Program Will Now Attempt to Run a Utility - Network

The SQL server is paused or stopped, or the workstation is unable to connect to the server machine.

Verify the SQL Instance Is Installed and Running on the Server

  1. On the server, access the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Click on “SQL Server Services” to display a list of the currently running services.
  3. Verify that SQL Server (GREATLANDYD)* is running.
  4. Right click the server name, then click Start if the service is stopped or paused.
  5. On the left, double click on SQL Server Network Configuration.
  6. Select Protocols for GREATLANDYD*.
  7. Right click on TCP/IP and select Enable.
  8. Right click on Named Pipes and select Enable.
  9. On the left, double click on SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration.
  10. Select Client Protocols.
  11. Right click on Named Pipes and select Enable.
  12. Click on SQL Server Services in the left pane.
  13. Right click on SQL Server (GREATLANDYD)* and click Restart.
  14. Right click on SQL Server Browser and click Restart.
  15. Proceed to the next section if the error persists, or the SQL instance does not exist.

*The SQL Server instance will differ depending on the version of the program. Please see the Important Program Directories and File Locations article for more information.

Disable Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Reinstall Yearli

  1. Disable all anti-virus or anti-spyware programs.
  2. Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
  3. Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Uninstall Yearli Server for the specified tax year.
  6. Reinstall Yearli Server. Take note of any errors that may occur during the installation.
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 on each workstation, uninstalling and reinstalling each Yearli Workstation for the specified tax year.

Verify Administrator Rights and Reinstall

  1. Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
  2. Type "compmgmt.msc" without the quotes in the Open field.
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the Computer Management screen, expand Local Users and Groups.
  5. Click on Groups.
  6. In the list on the right, double click on Administrators.
  7. Verify that the active user account is listed in the Members section.
  8. Close the Computer Management window.
  9. Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
  10. Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Uninstall Yearli Workstation for the specified tax year.
  13. Reinstall Yearli Workstation. Take note of any errors that may occur during the installation.

Disable Windows Firewall on the Server

  1. Go to the Server computer.
  2. Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
  3. Type "firewall.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Choose Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  6. Under Private network settings, choose Turn off Windows Firewall.
  7. Under Public network settings, choose Turn off Windows Firewall.
  8. If these steps solve the problem, you can create a firewall exception to allow the program to communicate with the firewall enabled.

Changing the Target Line of the Workstation

  1. On the server machine open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotes.
  2. Take note of the IPv4 Address.
  3. Go back to the affected workstation and right click on the Yearli Workstation icon.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. In the Target line locate the name/IP Address of the server machine.
  6. Change to the IP address noted in the previous step followed by a comma and then the dynamic port.
  7. Click OK to apply the changes and close the Properties window.

Uninstall the SQL Instance and Reinstall Yearli

  1. On the server machine, access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
  2. Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click Microsoft SQL Express 2019 from the list of programs.
  5. Click Uninstall/Change.
  6. Click the Remove option.
  7. Click OK.
  8. From the Instance to remove features from drop down menu, choose GREATLANDYD*.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Check the box next to Database Engine Services.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click Remove.
  14. Install the Yearli Server program again.
  15. If any errors appear during the installation, take note of the errors that occur and contact support.
