This message will occur when Microsoft SQL Server cannot install successfully due to one of the following reasons:
- A restart may be required for system changes to apply.
- WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) corruption.
- Enabled UAC (User Account Control) and/or anti-virus software.
- User account may not have Administrator privileges.
- Computer name and user name are the same.
- Multiple Administrator accounts are logged in.
- Insufficient permissions set on Greatland Corporation and Microsoft SQL Server folders.
Restart Computer
- Restart the computer to apply any system changes that may have been made by Microsoft SQL Server.
- Run the Yearli installation.
Verify WMI Is Functioning
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard.
- Type "msinfo32" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- If the System Information screen displays, go to the next section.
- If the following error displays, "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.", this would suggest that there is corruption with the WMI. This error will need to be resolved by an IT technician before the software can be successfully installed.
Disable UAC and Anti-Virus Software
- Disable the User Account Control (UAC).
- To disable UAC:
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and the R key on the keyboard.
- Type "useraccountcontrolsettings" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Drag the slider to the Never Notify option.
- Click OK.
- To disable UAC:
- Restart the computer.
- Disable the anti-virus software.
- Run the Yearli installation.
Check Account Privileges
Local Administrator privileges are required when running or installing the Yearli software.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "compmgmt.msc" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- In the Computer Management screen, expand Local Users and Groups.
- Click on Groups.
- In the list on the right double click on Administrators.
- Verify that the active user account is listed in the Members section.
Verify the Computer Name and the User Name Are Different
Changing the computer name and/or user name could affect how network resources work.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard at the same time.
- Type "msinfo32" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- On the System Information screen, verify that the System Name (computer name) and User name are different.
- If they are different skip to the next section. If they are the same, it will be required to change one of the names.
- To change the computer name:
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "sysdm.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Click Change.
- Change the value in the Computer name field.
- Click OK.
- Restart the machine to apply the change.
- To change the user name:
- Go to the Start menu.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Select User Accounts.
- Select Change your account name.
- Make the necessary changes and click Change Name.
- Log off the current user account and then log back in for changes to take effect.
- Press the Windows key on the keyboard.
- Type "users" without the quotes.
- Select User Accounts.
- Select Change your account name.
- Make the necessary changes and click Change Name.
- Log off the current user account and then log back in for changes to take effect.
- Select User Accounts.
- Select Change your account name.
- Make the necessary changes and click Change Name.
- Log off the current user account and then log back in for changes to take effect.
- To change the computer name:
- Run the Yearli installation.
Verify Only One Administrator Is Logged In
- Right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- Click Start Task Manager or Task Manager.
- If Windows 10 or 11, click More details. If not, proceed to the next step.
- Click on the Users tab.
- Verify that only one Administrator account is logged in.
- Log off any additional Administrator accounts, if needed.
Adjust Permissions on Greatland Corporation and Microsoft SQL Server Folders
Adjust Permissions for the Greatland Corporation Folder
- Navigate to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86).
- Right-click on the Greatland Corporation folder and select Properties.
- Click on the Security tab.
- Click on Edit to change permissions.
- Click Add.
- Type "network service" without the quotes and click Check Names.
- Click OK.
- Click Add.
- Enter the user name for the account currently logged in and click Check Names.
- Click OK.
- Adjust the following Groups and Users permissions as identified:
- Administrator (User) - Full Control.
- Administrators (Group) - Full Control.
- Users (Group) - Modify.
- Network Service (Group) - Modify.
- User name logged in - Modify.
- Click Apply to save changes.
- Close the Permissions and Properties windows.
Adjust Permissions for the Microsoft SQL Server Folder
- Navigate to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86).
- Right-click on the Microsoft SQL Server folder and select Properties.
- Click on the Security tab.
- Click on Edit to change permissions.
- Click Add.
- Type "network service" without the quotes and click Check Names.
- Click OK.
- Click Add.
- Enter the user name for the account currently logged in and click Check Names.
- Click OK.
- Adjust the following Groups and Users permissions as identified:
- Administrator (User) - Full Control.
- Administrators (Group) - Full Control.
- Users (Group) - Modify.
- Network Service (Group) - Modify.
- User name logged in - Modify.
- Click Apply to save changes.
- Close the Permissions and Properties windows.
Once both sets of permissions have been changed, run the installer again.
