There are multiple causes of this issue, including system resources, incorrectly applied updates, corrupted SQL installation, and network bandwidth limitations.
Verify All Minimum Requirements Are Met
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "msinfo32" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Verify that all system requirements for Yearli are met.
- System requirements can be found in the System Requirements and Compatible Network Environments article.
Reapply All Updates
If you are using a network version of Yearli Desktop, these instructions will need to be followed on the server computer. Please check for program updates on the server computer prior to updating database, as database version will not exceed server program version.
If the Yearli Icon Is on the Desktop
- Close your Yearli Desktop program.
- Go to your desktop, and locate the Yearli icon for the year you need.
- Right-click the Yearli icon, and click "Open File Location".*
- Locate and open the Utilities folder.
- The Utilities folder is commonly located near the top of the window.
- Right-click the SQLUtility.exe, and choose "Run as Administrator".
- Click the "Create/Update Database" button at the top.
- Wait for the utility to finish.
- In the white box on the left, scroll to the bottom of the text.
- If it says "Database successfully created", close the utility and launch the Yearli Desktop program.
If the Yearli Icon Is Not on the Desktop
- Close your Yearli Desktop program.
- Open the start menu, and locate the "Greatland Corporation" folder.
- Locate the Yearli 20XX entry, where XX is the year of the software.
- Right-click the Yearli 20XX entry, and select "Open File Location".
- In the folder that comes up, select the Yearli 20XX entry and click "Open File Location" again.*
- Locate and open the Utilities folder.
- The Utilities folder is commonly located near the top of the window.
- Right-click the SQLUtility.exe, and choose "Run as Administrator".
- Click the "Create/Update Database" button at the top.
- Wait for the utility to finish.
- In the white box on the left, scroll to the bottom of the text.
- If it says "Database successfully created", close the utility and launch the Yearli Desktop program.
*If the program was installed with the default settings, you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli\ or see the Important Program Directories and File Locations article for more locations.
Reinstall SQL Server
Making changes to the Window's registry keys can affect the operating system. It is recommended that you have an IT technician make these changes. It is also highly recommended to create a backup of the Window's registry prior to making any changes to it.
These steps need to be run on the server for a network installation.
Different years of the program will have different SQL versions.
- 2015 - 2017 will be under Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2.
- 2018 - 2021 will be under Microsoft SQL Server 2014.
- 2022 - Present will be under Microsoft SQL Server 2019.
Examples below are for 2022 - Current.
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes in the Open field.
- Click OK.
- Remove all of the following:
- Microsoft SQL server 2019 (GREATLANDYD)*
- Microsoft SQL server 2019 Native Client
- Microsoft SQL server 2019 Setup (English)Support Files
- Microsoft SQL Server Browser
- Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type “regedit” without the quotes and click OK.
- Delete the appropriate SQL registry keys.*
- HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQL$GREATLANDYD
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\GREATLANDYD
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL15.GREATLANDYD
- Browse to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server.
- Delete the appropriate folder.*
- MSSQL15.GREATLANDYD
- Reboot the computer.
- Rerun the Yearli installation over the top of the existing installation.
