How to Install Yearli - Network (2018-Current)

Installing the network version of Yearli.

Network installations consist of a server machine and workstations. 

• The server installation will install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 for Yearli 2018 and store the Yearli database. 
• Workstations communicate with the server through SQL to read and write data to the database.  Network configurations are required for users with multiple computers in a network that need to utilize the same database.

Installing Yearli as a Network Installation 

Please review the instructions below before installing. If you are unsure of what to do, please contact Technical Support prior to attempting the installation on your own. Please read the minimum system requirements to ensure that the software will run correctly on your computer.

Yearli cannot be installed on a network drive. The program must be installed on a local drive on the machine that is acting as the server.

Part 1: Network Server Installation

The server component of Yearli Desktop must be installed directly at the server. The server must run a Windows-based operating system.

1. Click on the download link in the email.
2. Select the Download Yearli Desktop Software button on the webpage.
3. Select to save the file to your Desktop, if prompted.
4. Once downloaded you can then select to run the file.
5. The installation will verify that the computer meets the minimum requirements for the Yearli Desktop software.
   • If the minimum requirements are not met a message will display listing the incompatible elements. Click OK to end the installation process.
   • If the installation has recommendations on ways to more effectively use Yearli Desktop, a message will display listing the recommendations.
   • Click OK to continue with the installation process.
6. The Welcome screen will display. Click Next to continue.
7. Review the End-User License Agreement.
8. Select the “I accept the terms of the license agreement” checkbox.
9. Click Next to continue.
10. Enter the authorization code received with your software.
11. Click Next to continue.
12. The feature selection screen will list the available network options.
    • By default the Workstation component will always be selected.
    • When installing the server, the Server component must also be selected.
    • Choose the arrow next to Server and select "Will be installed on the local hard drive".
13. Click Next to continue.
14. The directory where the software will be installed will display.
    • Greatland recommends installing the software to the default directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli\20XX.
    • Select the Change button to choose an alternate location or select Next to continue.
15. The installation will add shortcuts to the Start Menu of the computer.
    • Greatland recommends using the default Start Menu folder of Greatland Corporation\Yearli 20XX.
    • Enter an alternate Start Menu location if desired.
16. Choose the button that best reflects who should have access to the Yearli Desktop software.
17. Click Next to continue.
18. The installation will display any software prerequisites that must be installed with the software.
19. Click Next to continue.
20. The confirmation screen will confirm that the installation will begin and will configure the Yearli Desktop software.
21. Click Next to continue.
22. As the software is installed a progress bar will keep you informed of the status of the installation.
23. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.

Part 2: Network Workstation Installation

Before installing a workstation, please install the server component. Failure to install the server component first will result in errors which will require uninstalling and reinstalling the workstation to fix.

To begin the workstation install of Yearli Desktop:

1. Click on the download link in the email.
2. Select the Download Yearli Desktop Software button on the webpage.
3. Select to save the file to your Desktop, if prompted.
4. Once downloaded you can then select to run the file.
5. The installation will verify that the computer meets the minimum requirements for the Yearli Desktop software.
   • If the minimum requirements are not met a message will display listing the incompatible elements. Click OK to end the installation process.
   • If the installation has recommendations on ways to more effectively use Yearli Desktop, a message will display listing the recommendations. Click OK to continue with the installation process.
6. The Welcome screen will display. Click Next to continue.

Server Name Location

To locate the Yearli server name, perform the following steps at the machine designated as the Yearli server.

1. Press the Windows and R key on the keyboard.
2. Enter “cmd” without the quotes into the Open field.
3. Select OK.
4. The Command Prompt window will open. Enter “hostname” without the quotes.
5. Hit the Enter key on the keyboard.
6. The server name will be displayed.
