Installing the Network Version of Yearli
Network installations consist of a server machine and workstations.
- The server installation will install the required Microsoft SQL Server and will store the Yearli database.
- Workstations communicate with the server through SQL to read and write data to the database.
- Network configurations are required for users with multiple computers in a network that need to utilize the same database.
Please review the instructions below before installing. If you are unsure of what to do, please contact Technical Support prior to attempting the installation on your own. Please read the minimum installation requirements to ensure that the software will run correctly on your computer.
Yearli cannot be installed on a network drive. The program must be installed on a local drive on the machine that is acting as the server.
Part 1: Network Server Installation
Install the server portion of the software on the network server prior to installing on workstations. The server installation must be performed directly at the server. If the server does not run a Windows-based network, see the instructions for non-Microsoft networks at the end of this article.
- For Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, only WinFiler 2012, WinFiler Plus 2013, Yearli 2014, and newer are compatible and supported. The Yearli software is not supported on any versions of Microsoft Small Business Server.
- 3.5 . NET Framework will need to be enabled before installing on Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11, or Windows Server 2012.
For the Yearli installation, please log in to Windows with administrative rights.
- If using a CD, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive of the network server. The installation program should automatically begin. If it does not start:
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type “d:\setup” (where “d” is your CD-ROM drive) without the quotes.
- Click OK. The installation will start.
- If using the downloadable install package for the Yearli software, click the download link in the email.
- Select the program executable file and select to save the file to your desktop.
- Once downloaded you can then select to run the file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you are installing a quarterly update CD and not the initial setup, skip steps 4-6.
- When prompted for an authorization code, enter the codes you received with the setup CD or in your email with the download link.
- Enter the code that is associated with the package you have in the first field.
- Enter the network users code in the second field.
- If installing Yearli 2016 or newer, only one authorization code will need to be entered.
- Click Next.
- On the product selection screen, choose Server and continue through the screens.
- On the Destination Location screen, it is recommended to install the program to the default location as provided.
- If you want to change the location, use the Browse button, making sure the path indicated ends with 20XX (where XX is the software year).
- Click Next.
- The program will continue installing all necessary system components and the Yearli server files.
- You will be required to restart after any component updates.
- If you are prompted to restart during the installation, leave the CD in the drive during the restart.
- Setup will continue automatically after each restart.
- When the server install is complete, continue with Part 2 to install Yearli on the workstations.
Part 2: Network Workstation Installation
It is recommended to install a Workstation directly on the Server. This install does not count towards the workstation licenses purchased.
Install the software on the network workstation only after installing it on the network server.
- If using the downloadable install package for the Yearli software, click on the link in the email.
- Select the program executable file and select to save the file to your desktop.
- Once downloaded you can then select to run the file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you are installing a quarterly update CD and not the initial setup, skip steps 4-6.
- When prompted for an authorization code, enter the codes you received with the setup CD or in the email with the download link.
- Enter the code that is associated with the package you have in the first box. Enter the network users code in the second box.
- If installing Yearli 2016 or later, only one authorization code will need to be entered.
- Click Next.
- On the product selection screen, choose Workstation and continue through the screens.
- On the Destination Location screen, it is recommended to install the program to the default location as provided.
- If you want to change the location, use the Browse button, making sure the path indicated ends with a folder named 20XX (where XX is the software year).
- Click Next.
- On the Select Data Server screen click the Browse button and look for the name of the Yearli server.
- If the server does not appear in the displayed list, the server name or IP address (if static) can be entered manually.
- If you do not know the name of the server, or the server's IP address, refer to server name location section below.
- The program will continue installing all necessary system components and the Yearli workstation files.
- You will be required to restart after any component updates.
- If you are prompted to restart during the installation, leave the CD in the drive during the restart.
- Setup will continue automatically after each restart.
Server Name Location
To locate the Yearli server name, perform the following steps at the machine designated as the Yearli server:
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and R key on the keyboard.
- Type "msinfo32" without the quotes.
- Note the System Name listed. This will be the name to locate the server in step 8 of the Network Workstation Installation.
Only use the server's IP address if it is static. If the IP address is created using DHCP, use the server's name instead.
To locate the server's IP address, perform the following steps at the machine designated as the Yearli server:
- Access the Windows Run window by pressing the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard.
- Type "cmd.exe" without the quotes.
- Type "ipconfig" without the quotes.
- Hit Enter.
- Note the IPv4 Address.
- This will be the number used to locate the server in step 8 of the Network Workstation Installation.
Instructions for Non-Microsoft Networks
Yearli must be installed on a computer that uses a Microsoft Windows operating system. If a Windows server is not available, you may designate a single Windows computer on which to install both the Yearli Server and Yearli Workstation programs.
Yearli requires that the network communications protocol TCP/IP be enabled. As long as TCP/IP is enabled at installation, you will be asked to enter the name of the machine where the Yearli Server is installed.
- Follow steps from the network server installation on the workstation designated as the Yearli server.
- If you intend to run the program at this machine, you will also need to do a network workstation installation.
- Follow the network workstation installation instructions on any machine that will be used to access the software.
