My 941 form was rejected for an invalid name control in Premier. What do I do?

To file a 941 form electronically, it requires the company name control.  The name control is a four character abbreviation of the company name.  The abbreviation is commonly the first four characters of the business name and is assigned to the business at the time the EIN is obtained from the IRS.

The 941 form was most likely rejected because the name control entered on the form does not match what the IRS has on record for the EIN.

In many cases the name control is the first four characters of the company's legal business name.  For more information on how to determine what your name control might be, please visit the IRS website to read about how the name control is determined.

If you would like to verify or obtain the name control assign to the EIN, you can also contact the IRS Practitioner Priority Service at 1-866-860-4259 or the IRS Business & Specialty Line at 1-800-829-4933.
