How do I make a manual backup of my Yearli Database? (2017 and older)

Using the database backup application

Note: If this is a network installation, the following steps must be performed on the Yearli Server computer.

  1. Close Yearli. 
  2. Navigate to the Yearli Installation directory for the desired year.*
  3. Open the Utilities folder.
  4. In the Utilities folder, right click the Yearli Desktop Backup App and choose Run as Administrator.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose the year of the software you would like to backup.
  7. Click Browse to choose where the backup will be saved.
  8. Click Backup.
  9. Click Finish to close the wizard.

*The file directory will differ depending on the version of the program. The file directories associated with each version of the program are:

  • WinFiler: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler or WinFiler Server
  • WinFiler Plus and Yearli 2014: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\WinFiler Plus or WinFiler Plus Server
  • Yearli: C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Greatland Corporation\Yearli or Yearli Server

Manual database backup instructions

Note: If this is a network installation, the following steps must be performed on the Yearli Server computer.

  1. Close Yearli.
  2. Access the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager.  For steps to do this see the How do I access SQL Server Configuration Manager? article.
  3. Click on SQL Server Services to display a list of the currently running services. 
  4. Right click SQL Server (YD2015_SS8E)* and click Stop.
  5. Minimize the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  6. Navigate to the Yearli Installation directory for the desired year.  (Installation directory locations listed at the end of the document.)
  7. Copy the entire Data folder to a separate location.
  8. Open the minimized SQL Server Configuration Manger.
  9. Restart the service by right-clicking the service and selecting Start.
  10. Close the window.

*The SQL Server instance will differ depending on the version of the program. The SQL servers associated with each version of the program are:

  • WinFiler 2012 - 2013: WF_SS8E
  • WinFiler Plus 2013 - 2014: WFP_SS8E
  • Yearli 2014: WFP_SS8E
  • Yearli 2015: WFP_SS8E or YD2015_SS8E
  • Yearli 2016: WFP_SS8E or YD2015_SS8E
